for those of you who found your way here by being attentive readers and followers; welcome to another part of my dream.
I have a dream! Young and old, grand child and grand parent; parent and child; uncle and nephew/niece; aunt and nephew/niece; step families; anyone really-coming together and binding over something they hold very dear to themselves or maybe they are just looking for a day time activity.
I talked about the idea of a comic book shop on previous posts that includes a coffee shop and what not. I also talked about how seniors are left out of popular culture more often than not these days. What if, I was able to instil my values of family and community togetherness through my dreams and passions? Sorry, what if WE could? You and I, and everyone else willing to of course, huh? What if?
How you ask?
What is one of the biggest gimmicks and busiest days in a comicbook store?
If you didn't get it, it's free comicbook day lol I'll post about it more indepth next but, for now all you need to know is that people can come in, get a free comic and hustle out. Super busy, lots of people, lots of younger folks, etc.
What if there was; k! No! You didn't guess it and don't roll your eyes! You had no idea. Shush! Eh!? Quiet will you!? In the one writing the blog! Frik, well before I was rudelyyyy interrupted! I was saying, senior comic book day. OMG! Okay seriously, I will ban you from my blog! Hard banishment! You ever been banished from my blog? Has anyone no! You know why!? Noooo not cause no one ever reads it, gosh you are rude! Ugh. Worst person I have ever read to by far!
Sooooo yes, free comicbook day for seniors only. Yes they can drive...yes they can read, seriously amigo!? I will end you!
Senior comicbook day with the exception that if you are a youngster or under the ripe age of 30 and coming in with someone over thirty, then yes, you may come, but if not, you better go get your grandfather, your grandmother, a patient that you work with in a nursing home, something. If you want that free comicbook, you gotta earn it by helping us, help the elderly.
Ya, who is the silly one now, I'm just trying to help bring generations and history together in a common place over something that can be a shared interest and if not that, then just a nice free day out grabbing a book you can give away to your kids, or a friend.
I would run buses from retirement homes and have an RSVP list for any older folks who would be in dire need for a ride.
Seniors can come together with old friends, get a coffee, grab a comic for their grand kids or with their grand kids. They can remince or something, anything really. I just think you know what, quit giving spoiled kids and people who already have more comics than they know what to do with, the free ones all the time, give it to people that need it or people that it may just make them legitimately happier for being able to on e again feel younger.
Comics are for everyone and should be read by anyone who wants to read them or has like minded ideas to that of anyone who reads a comic. Why feed the addictions of people who can already afford it, why not market it to youth impact centres and schools? Okay ya two things there.
1. Copyright- schools won't want to pay for the service :(
2. Consumer adherence- usually the kids at youth impact centres are not updated on story plots or just may never buy a comicbook again.
But the chances and possibilities, even if it is a million to one, why can't we endorse it? Why can't we make the leap and maybe inspire the next stan lee?
Idk, the point I'm trying to make here is, include them. Look at the creator of marvel, he is one of the folks who can identify with the individuals that marvel and all comics has stopped marketing to.
Yes, they were marketed to once upon a time, they probably at least once in their life owned one of these 1000$ + comics that people so desperately ache to have (like myself) oh my god! What I wouldn't give to own an un graded copy of #58 tales of fantasy: the amazing spiderman. It is what is though. One day, it's a dream, but someone with a dream is someone working towards something. As for what? Darn, I don't even know yet :)
Cheers,
Truebeliever.
